A brief history of the family business
James Dickson (1877-1952), was a Chief Skipper and later promoted to Commander Auxiliary Patrol in the Royal Naval Reserves (from 1915-1920) and commanded a number of heavy trawlers / minesweepers (The Olive Leaf, White Oak, Valiant II, HMS Pekin and La Parisienne). Upon being demobilized he purchased a trawler named the Undertow in 1921 and went to sea until he sold this in 1924 and started up the family fish processing business near Cockenzie Old Harbour.
His son John Dickson senior went to work for him and in later years his son James Dickson (1933-2011) joined the business, which has now been passed on to the present generation of the family. John, Neil, Pamela and mum Marion are presently involved in running the business.
